Our History

A Legacy of Service and Dedication

Galesburg Hospitals’ Ambulance Service was established on June 15, 1979 as a not-for-profit freestanding corporation in response to a clear need for improvement in ambulance service for the people of the Galesburg area.

GHAS has grown from modest beginnings to a full-fledged paramedic ambulance service covering over 5000 sq. miles, including Knox, Warren and neighboring counties, with over 100,000 people residing in the service area. GHAS employs 65 individuals, including Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics and support staff. GHAS operates 11 fully equipped Advanced Life Support ambulances and one one basic life support ambulance. Through links with the Galesburg and Warren County Public Safety Buildings, GHAS is in constant communication with hospitals, physicians, air medical, police, and other public safety agencies.
